Principal’s Welcome – Gilda Pussich
Mary MacKillop Catholic College Wakeley is a Year 7-12 Catholic systemic girls’ school within the Archdiocese of Sydney. MMCC was founded by the Sisters of St Joseph in 1991 to provide high quality education for young women in a growing area of south western Sydney. The College has a history of adding value to student performance as they progress through the curriculum, achieving outstanding HSC and NAPLAN results.
As a school community we believe that St Mary of the Cross MacKillop based her life on the ideals of respect for every person, justice for the poor, and education that promoted the individual. Following in the footsteps of Jesus and Mary MacKillop, our College provides a holistic education focused on the development of young women who are confident, articulate, flexible, faith-filled and able and committed to make a difference in our world. Central to this focus is a vertical homeroom system, which brings together students from Years 7 to 10 with the aim of building community.
MMCC provides a range of academic pathways by offering a wide range of courses, including extension and vocational courses. The College is accredited in Newman Gifted Selective Education offering a selective stream in Years 7 to 10. The College offers a whole school literacy and numeracy program as well as an after school homework program, SEEK. There is a vibrant Diverse Learning Department responsible for Gifted and Talented, Special Education and English as a Additional Language or Dialect. The College is well resource with modern facilities that support quality teaching and learning.
The College values student voice, by providing student leadership opportunities for students in Years 9 to 12 and allowing them to lead various aspects of College life. There is also an extensive range of sports and extra-curricula activities offered to the students. These include debating, public speaking, choir, instrumental program, dance and a social justice program. Our College prioritises the professional learning of teachers to ensure the highest quality provision of an authentic and challenging curriculum.
The MMCC website is an entry door into the richness of the College. We regularly share successes, special experiences and ideas as we reach out to our parents and the wider community. Through Facebook and Twitter you will be able to get an immediate feel for what is happening behind the College gates.
