The study of English is a mandatory subject from Kindergarten to Year 12 in the NSW curriculum.
Through the study of English, students are able to develop an understanding of themselves and the wider world, whilst developing a lifelong love of literature and the arts.
At Mary MacKillop Catholic College, opportunities are presented for students to engage in activities that are both challenging and enjoyable. Each module of work is developed to give students the opportunity to extend their skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing, viewing and representing. Through their response to a wide range of texts, students also gain a greater understanding of the way texts are constructed for particular purposes.
Proficiency in English is crucial to the study of a wide range of other school subjects, and is imperative if students are to become critical and creative members of society. Students at Mary MacKillop Catholic College are encouraged to become independent and reflective learners, in the belief that this skill will serve them well in their chosen careers.
